Five Renter-Friendly Upgrades To Your Bathroom

College housing is notorious for being beige. Landlords everywhere buy the same off-white paint and douse the living quarters in it until they run out and then lease the space to the unsuspecting masses. The most neglected room is always the bathroom with its sad plastic toilet seat, perma-grime covered faucets and lighting that seems like it would fit in well in a prison cell. What if I told you we don’t have to live this way? We can have a nice home AND get our security deposit back at the end of our lease. Here are five renter-friendly upgrades you can make to your bathroom.

Product Number One: The Curved Shower Rod

If you’re anything like me, trying to take a nice relaxing shower after a final exam or long day of working at an hourly wage job just isn’t very relaxing when you’re crammed in a tight little space with the shower liner hugging you like it’s never going to see you again. There is an easy renter-friendly upgrade you can make to your bathroom:

THE CURVED SHOWER ROD!

Yes. Not only does this give you several extra inches in your shower to move around, but it also solves the problem of the overly attached shower liner.

Product Number Two: Battery Operated Candles

Okay, this one seems frivolous but trust me – the prison lighting is not doing anything for our sanity. Adding these mood enhancing candles, which come with a remote control for ease of use, is a great and easy way to turn off that glaring overhead light and create a little atmosphere for when you’re soaking in your tub after a long day.

Pro Tip: Opt for a multi-pack to really get the effect!

Product Number Three: Add A Little Color!

There are multiple ways you can add life to your dull beige bathroom. The easiest way is to get some fun towels or maybe add some art. I would suggest a bold, statement shower curtain to go with your nice new curved shower rod. Let’s face it, your current one is probably old and crusty.

UPGRADE IT!

If you have all white walls and surfaces, maybe switch things up with a navy-colored shower curtain or something floral depending on your tastes.

Product Number Four: The Shower Head

NEVER IN THE HISTORY OF EVER has a landlord left a decent shower head in the bathroom for new lessees. And I know what you’re thinking: well at my luxury apartment…blah blah blah. This article isn’t for you.

This is for my readers who live in cheaply decorated college housing which is where I’ve spent most of my time. Trust me. The shower head is a very important upgrade. You’ll get better water pressure, a better spray. It adds a little something to your shower experience that really takes you away to another world. Opt for this one, which delivers 2.5 GPM!

Product Number Five: Plants!

That’s right. House plants. I know, you are worried you won’t have time to keep it alive. Don’t worry about it! There are plenty of house plants that are less fussy than a house cat and if you are really worried about it, get a fake one! The splash of natural looking color can be calming and soothing after long days in class or the office…or more like the kitchen at that burger joint where you’re working to get yourself through school. We don’t judge. I prefer a nice eucalyptus for my shower. It adds aromatherapy and beauty. If you’re starting slow, maybe opt for a low-maintenance, high humidity plant like this philodendron.

Your Luxurious bathroom escape awaits…

We don’t have to live in a boring beige world, and you’ll be surprised what a few simple upgrades can do for your mental state. Seriously. Make your home a place you want to live with these five renter-friendly upgrades to your bathroom!
